The winner will take down $8.15 million, and all nine final-table participants will earn at least $1 million at the Main Event of the 48th World Series of Poker.

The Main Event of the 48th World Series of Poker is underway, drawing a field of 7,221 players, a 7.2 percent increase over last year’s 6,737.

It’s the third-largest Main Event in history and the first to break 7,000 players since 2010. The total prize pool is $67,877,400, with a minimum of $15,000 awarded to the top 1,084 players.

The winner will take down $8.15 million, and all nine final-table participants will earn at least $1 million.

That final table will be determined Monday and will be played out Friday through July 23.

Last year’s champion, Qui Nguyen, was eliminated on Day 2 of the tournament.

CIRQUE BUYS BLUE MAN

Cirque du Soleil has acquired Blue Man Productions for an undisclosed amount. While it’s big news in the entertainment biz, it’s not expected to have any immediate effect on any of the Cirque or Blue Man shows in Las Vegas.
