Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack Finds Partner for Sports Betting Launch – Wheeling Intelligencer

WHEELING — A new partnership has been formed to develop technology for Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack’s launch this fall of sports betting.

Officials of Delaware North, the casino’s owner, said Wednesday it has partnered with Miomni Gaming to provide turnkey retail and mobile sports wagering services.

The two companies will focus first on launching services this fall for Delaware North’s two West Virginia casinos, Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras Casino & Resort near Charleston. An exact starting date was not released.

Glen White, director of corporate communications for Delaware North, said the West Virginia Lottery Commission issued a temporary license for Miomni, which has been a licensed service provider to casinos in Nevada since 2012. He was not more specific about when the license might become permanent or when the casino might implement the retail and online sports wagering, other than to say it would happen simultaneously in West Virginia.

At Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras, Delaware North has created sportsbook spaces with flexible configurations and high visibility.

The facilities are designed to foster a casual sports bar atmosphere with seating and proximity to food and beverage options, including bars.

“It all adds up to a high-energy, high-participation atmosphere,” said Kim Florence, regional president and general manager for both Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras. “We think this will become a great draw to bring people from across the state and outside of West Virginia to experience these exciting resorts.”

The Delaware North and Miomni partnership will create the exclusive sportsbook technology platform for Delaware North’s gambling properties in states where sports wagering is or becomes legal.
