Stolen guns, drugs found in Montague home; 2 arrested – New Jersey Herald

MONTAGUE — After gunshots were reportedly fired during a domestic dispute in the township Friday, state police officers arrived on scene to find a man and a woman slumped over in chairs inside their home, with one of them holding a gun.

Police shined a flashlight into the residence and noticed a male, later identified as Gerlando Todaro, 54, holding a revolver with a black handle in his right hand. After announcing their arrival, the officers went into the home and Todaro and his girlfriend, later identified as Franca Fornino, 53, awoke.

A subsequent investigation by officers revealed several stolen guns and weapons, many of which were unlawfully obtained, as well as large capacity ammunition and drugs.

Fornino and Todaro were arrested and are each facing 10 charges, including second-degree possession of a firearm to use unlawfully and two charges of third-degree theft stemming from the investigation that discovered some of the weapons were stolen.

Four officers were dispatched to the home on Aug. 31 for a possible domestic dispute after a neighbor reported hearing several people arguing about 40 yards away, according to the arrest affidavits for Fornino and Todaro, which are identical.

The neighbor also indicated they heard two gunshots during the argument.

After police went into the home, they ordered Todaro to drop the gun, put his hands up and get on the ground, which he did, and officers handcuffed, searched him and arrested him.

Fornino was subsequently handcuffed, searched and arrested.

Officers grabbed the gun Todaro was holding and noticed it had ammunition in it, which they proceeded to empty to make the handgun “safe,” the affidavit states.
