Social gaming platform Roblox announced today that it has acquired PacketZoom, a company that produces software to optimize app performance on mobile networks. Its solution is aimed at lowering latency on data transfers over older or more unreliable mobile networks. This is Roblox’s first acquisition in its history.

That’s an important technology for Roblox, which already sees 56% of its users accessing its platform via mobile devices. The company is also in the process of expanding internationally to regions where more players use phones to play games, making the technology even more attractive to Roblox.

“Roblox users can expect to join games faster and have an overall better game experience on mobile platforms as the company integrates PacketZoom’s technology and IP,” Roblox VP of engineering Adam Miller wrote in a blog post.

As part of the acquisition, PacketZoom will not remain a separate entity, but its engineering team, including founder and CTO Chetan Ahuja, will be joining Roblox. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but according to Pitchbook, PacketZoom was valued at $23 million after a series A round in November 2017.
