Orlando Magic Gaming loses all 3 games in NBA 2K debut – Orlando Sentinel

Magic Gaming, the Orlando Magic’s competitive video game team, dropped all three of its opening-day games Thursday.

First-round pick and Jacksonville native Christopher “KontruL” Cantrell averaged 13.3 points per game to lead the team but it wasn’t enough to avoid the 0-3 start.

Although the losses eliminated the team from an eight-team tournament to end the opening week, they did have a hand in determining the bracket.

Philadelphia 76ers GC beat Orlando on a 3-point shot by second-round pick Antonio “Newdini” Newman with 10 seconds left to clinch their spot in the tournament.

The loss was just another bit of bad news for Magic Gaming, which dropped its opening game to Toronto Uprising GC 68-51 before losing their second game to Blazer5 Gaming 73-59.

New York native and Magic Gaming’s second-round pick Emmanuel “UCMANNY” Cruz averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

The NBA 2K esports league, which includes the Magic Gaming team, is an effort by the NBA to appeal to a younger audience. Last month, the league conducted a six-round draft that populated the rosters of 17 teams.

Players are paid a salary and housed in Orlando for the team. The opening tournament’s final game will start at 7 p.m. Saturday.
