The Devils will play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with Game 1 slated for Thursday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

New Jersey earned the second wild card in the Eastern Conference following there 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals to close the regular season on Saturday.

The team awaited its first-round opponent, with the Lightning and Boston Bruins still in the race for the Atlantic Division title.

Wood, Zacha help push Devils to postseason

A Bruins 4-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Sunday gave the division to the Lightning and set up the Devils’ first-round opponent.

The best-of-seven series will open with the Devils on the road for Games 1 and 2 at Amalie Arena. Games 3 and 4 will be at home at Prudential Center in Newark. If necessary, Games 5 and 7 will be played in Tampa, and Game 6 in Newark.

The Lightning finished as the top team in the Eastern Conference, but the Devils went 3-0-0 against them during the regular season.

A Devils 5-4 shootout win on Oct. 17 in Newark was one of the two blemishes on the Lightning’s record during a 9-1-1 start to the season. Goalie Eddie Lack then made a career high 48 saves in a 4-3 regulation win on Feb. 17 in Tampa.
