Mystic Lake Casino Hotel to become second largest in Minneapolis, St. Paul area – SW News Media

Mystic Lake Casino Hotel will soon put Prior Lake on the map in a big way.

The hotel is undergoing a large expansion that would make it the second-largest hotel in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, according to Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community spokesperson Tricia Nissen.

Nissen said the new addition — which will be known as Mystic Lake Center — will be a 70,000-square-foot meeting and event space, with a nine-story, 180-room hotel tower. Completion of the project will bring the hotel’s total to 766 rooms.

The Hilton Minneapolis, which claims the title of the state’s largest hotel, has 821 rooms.

Construction, overseen by Burnsville-based PCL Construction Services Inc., started in the spring of 2016, and should be completed later this year or in early 2018. The expansion is intended to be complete well in time for the 2018 Super Bowl, which will take place Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Prior Lake Mayor Kirt Briggs is hopeful the hotel — and the game — will bring a lot of visitors to the area.

“I know there’s been a lot of excitement around the Super Bowl,” Briggs said. “It’s great to see the growth from the standpoint of visitors to Scott County. It provides visibility into our community.”

The new addition will be attached to the 586-room Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, and will include plenty of amenities designed for meetings and events: three large ballrooms, a number of small meeting rooms and an executive conference room. The hotel also promises a view of the nearby golf course: The Meadows at Mystic Lake.
