Machado trade talk reportedly heating up – MLB.com

Manny Machado arguably is the biggest name on the trade market this month, and that market appears to be accelerating, according to MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal, as written in The Athletic (subscription required).

The Baltimore Orioles may look to move Machado, their star shortstop who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, sooner rather than later. Why? Because the return for three months of Machado would be more than for two months.

One club that has been linked closely to Machado is the Phillies, and it just so happens that the O’s are in Philly for a two-game set Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s bound to send the rumor machine into overdrive.

While MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports it’s unlikely the Phillies would give up a huge haul for a rental — even one as impactful as Machado — it is possible the club could look to acquire a third baseman by the non-waiver Trade Deadline. Machado, of course, was one of baseball’s best at the hot corner before switching to short this year.

Whether Machado would be open to returning to third base remains up in the air, as he’s said he prefers sticking to his natural position of shortstop.
