Live! Casino and Hotel Opens Orchid Gaming And Smoking Patio – Press Box

Almost all casinos face the dilemma of accommodating customers who want to smoke and those who don’t want to be around it.

In Maryland, smoking is prohibited inside casinos. In some instances, casinos have provided outdoor perches where the smokers can puff away and play a handful of slots.

However, Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover, Md., has come up with a solution that should make smokers happy and also feel welcomed. The Orchid Gaming and Smoking Patio opened May 3 as a stylish adjunct to the main casino with 12 live action gaming tables, 28 electronic gaming positions and 150 slot machines, including video poker.

The Orchid Gaming and Smoking Patio — located near Phillips Seafood, Morty’s deli and the En Vivo Mexican restaurant — feels mostly enclosed but is open-air on one side. Still, the sophisticated climate control in the room will allow it stay open 365 days a year and keep customers comfortable.

The Orchid features a full-service bar and true to its signature purpose (allowing folks to smoke), it will also offer an extensive cigar program. Among the brands available are Arturo, Monte Christo, Atabey and Byron, as well as special Live! editions from Titan.

A convenient facet of the gaming on the patio is that both the slots and the tables will feature so-called TITO technology (ticket-in, ticket-out), meaning that gamblers will be able to get a payout voucher from a slot machine and take it to a gaming table, and vice versa, eliminating the need to cart around chips.

The name of the patio, Orchid, was chosen because the flower is one of the most significant in Asian cultures symbolizing wealth and fortune.

The interior design features warm colors, plantings and natural materials with a shimmering water column and stylized trees with delicate lighting.
