L3 Technologies acquires Md. aerospace firm for $50 million – WTOP

L3 Technologies said Monday it has acquired Applied Defense Solutions, a Maryland-based aerospace engineering, software development and space tech company, for about $50 million.

The deal strengthens L3’s (NYSE: LLL) capabilities in space situational awareness, particularly multidomain command and control, said CEO Chris Kubasik — mission-critical areas that are a key element of U.S. national security strategy objectives.

Headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, with offices in Herndon and Colorado Springs, Colorado, Applied Defense Solutions will be renamed L3 ADS and will add $15 million to L3’s top line for this year and approximately $50 million in 2019. 

Investment banking firm The McLean Group advised ADS on the deal.

L3 is headquartered in New York City and employs 31,000 people globally providing a broad range of communication, electronic and sensor systems used on military, homeland security and commercial platforms. Its 2017 sales totaled $9.6 billion.
