Hundreds of Mourners Bid Farewell to UK's “Queen of Poker” Emma Fryer – HighstakesDB

UK poker pro Emma Fryer, who tragically lost her life in a road accident in the Czech Republic whilst on her way to the WSOPE at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov was laid to rest on Tuesday morning in her hometown of Alsager near Stoke-on-Trent. Hundreds of mourners turned out to pay their respects to the popular 42 year old mother of two.

Fryer, who was referred to locally as Stoke-on-Trent’s “poker queen” had played poker socially in local casinos for a number of years but had recently, after continued success, decided to take her game to the next level. Just a month before her death Emma enjoyed her biggest ever payday, earning $63,000 for her third place finish in a Dusk Til Dawn £1k buy-in tourney, backing this up a week later with a $10k score for taking 2nd place in a the 2017 Genting Mini Series in Sheffield. These results had enabled Emma to find a backer for larger tournaments and make poker her profession, having worked within the gaming industry for many years as a Poker & Casino VIP Manager at leading UK site Bet365.

Emma died instantly as the car she was passenger in crashed directly into a concrete post as it approached a roundabout in thick fog.

The funeral service in Alsager was packed with mourners, with many people having to pay their respects outside the church. As Emma’s sister, Sally Parton said, “She was so popular – she was like a celebrity.”
