Craft Beer Tour comes to Levee Park – Winona Daily News

Levee Park hosted over 1,800 people at Winona’s first Craft Beer Tour on Saturday.

36 beer vendors pitched their tents for patrons to sample brews that were both familiar and exotic.

The Craft Beer Tour is the brainchild of Christian Medford, who runs the event for Leighton Broadcasting. Medford coordinated with the various breweries to send their people and products to Winona for a chance at impressing some new clientele.

“We knew there was a great beer following down here, so we just started talking to breweries, they were like, ‘Yes, please; we want something like this in this market,’” Medford said.

The past beer festivals he has staged for Leighton were in Fargo and St. Cloud before he brought the craft beer tasting to Winona.

General admission was $25 for all the beer that the ticket holder could sample. For an extra $10, the VIP experience included an extra hour of early afternoon sampling, a T-shirt, and a commemorative sampling mug.

“Our VIP sold out. 600 people came for that,” Medford said as a long line formed outside the park for general admission.

When asked about choosing Winona as a location for the event, Medford said, “Have you seen the bluffs? It’s amazing right here! Levee Park is beautiful, this is just the perfect spot. It’s a really good beer market, it’s right on the cusp of Wisconsin, which we all know Wisconsin’s a great beer state. Minnesota has become a great beer state as well, so it’s a combination of both of them.”

Winona resident Logan Veenadall said, “You gotta make the rounds more than once, that’s for sure. I’m going for as many [samples] as possible.”
