Covington man arrested after firing firearm on Wabash River – wlfi.com

VERMILLION, Co., Ind. (WLFI) – A Covington man was arrested on multiple charges, including firing a rifle from his boat on the Wabash River, after an investigation by Indiana Conservation officers on Friday, May 30th.

Stephen Winland, 51, was arrested after he was seen shooting a rifle mounted to the front of his jon-boat on the Wabash River.Indiana Conservation officer Deland Szczepanski said he saw the bullets coming from Winland’s rifle ricochet off the water’s surface in close proximity to the I-74 bridge. Officers recovered a total of 105 empty file casing inside the boat.

Winland was arrested with assistance by the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department with the following charges: Criminal recklessness with a firearm, shooting into or across state water, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
