Biz Bits: Employers and beer drinkers needed – Chico Enterprise-Record

An employer looking for full or part-time workers would be a welcome sight in the eyes of Jeff Chaix.

Chaix is deputy director of the Work for Warriors program. He’s based in Sacramento, but his home now is not far from the exit of the old Sears building in Chico.

His mantra: Have workers, need employers.

It’s Chaix’s job to find employment for Camp Fire evacuees looking for work. Unfortunately, many of the evacuees not only lost their home in Paradise, but lost their work too. Their bosses are out of luck as well.

Generally Work for Warriors focuses on locating jobs for veterans, but the impact on Paradise ridge residents has been so huge that its focus has been expanded to anyone looking for a job, Chaix said.

Affiliated with the California National Guard, the program has employment connections throughout the state. It could mean the veteran needs to relocate. Right now, Chaix is looking for those local jobs to keep residents here.

For employers who worry they may lose their new hire after a short time, Chaix says it’s unlikely.

Recovery is going to take a long time, he said.

He’ll take any kind of job opening, but he also knows that soon enough there will be a demand for contractors to clear away the ash and burned debris. After that, new construction work.

Chaix is happy to chat with an employer who needs to hire. His phone is 916-208-1441 or email [email protected] There’s also information at
