Alcohol ban in place for several Lake Tahoe beaches during Fourth of July holiday week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (News 4 & Fox 11) — 

Heading to Lake Tahoe for your holiday week? Think twice before packing your alcohol.

The annual alcohol ban will be in effect at Nevada Beach, Zephyr Cove Resort, Zephyr Shoals from 6 a.m. to midnight on July 4.

County and state laws ban the possession or consumption of alcohol on the Truckee River from Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows and Chamber’s Landing Beach on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

These areas will be patrolled by law enforcement personnel from the Forest Service, Douglas and Placer counties, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and private security staff.

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
