The AbleGamers Foundation, a charity dedicated to bringing visibility and resources to people with disabilities, has teamed up with a number of game industry giants to donate $10,000 in assistive gaming equipment to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.

Alongside Microsoft, HyperX, and Humble Bundle, AbleGamers gifted Children’s Hospital in New Orleans (CHNOLA) a number of custom controllers, accessibility devices – including Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller, which was developed with help from AbleGamers – HyperX headsets, keyboards, mouse, and mousepads, as well as a pack of family-friendly games from Microsoft. Humble Bundle contributed proceeds from its Humble Monthly Bundle to the package.

“Everyone deserves to have fun,” said Mark Barlet, Executive Director and Founder of AbleGamers. “We believe with the right set of tools and training, every hospital can have the ability to use video games for fun and rehabilitation. Some patients have a permanent disability, some have a temporary disability, and others are just sick and need a place to retreat away from the pain. Video games provide that way to escape from your troubles, make new friends, or stay connected to loved ones.”

The donation comes as part of AbleGamers’ monthly Expansion Pack program, which has so far donated six customized packages of accessible gaming equipment to medical facilities with special needs patients since the program’s creation in 2016. That’s a total of $100,000 worth of technology making gaming accessible and friendly to all, plus on-site installation of equipment, maintenance, and training. Setup for July’s Expansion Pack at CHNOLA begins on July 12.
