Three plead guilty to robbing Schriever casino – Daily Comet

Three suspects accused of robbing a Schriever video-poker casino in 2015 have pleaded guilty, prosecutors said. 

Houma residents Roxelle Verdin, 41, of 406 Morgan St.; Treg Westley of 109 Craig Court; and Latronce Harris, 40, of 119 Square Lane; conspired to rob the Jubilee casino June 7, 2015, Terrebonne Parish Assistant District Attorney Sye Broussard said.

Westley pleaded guilty Tuesday to armed robbery with a firearm and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, prosecutors said.

District Judge George Larke also sentenced Verdin to 10 years for her role in the crime.

Harris received seven years after pleading guilty to attempted armed robbery. 

Charges for a fourth suspect, Celia Garcia, 52, of Houma, are pending, Broussard said. 

Investigators found evidence that Verdin, a former employee at the casino, planned the robbery, Broussard said. 

“We evaluated the strength of our case against each individual separately to determine that the sentences the judge gave them were appropriate,” Broussard said. 

Westley and Harris entered the casino during the early morning, drew their firearms and forced the cashier to open her register, the Sheriff’s Office said. 

“They stole the money from the register and ran out of the casino,” Broussard said. “It happened really quickly. They ended up stealing about $19,000. The detectives and officers involved in the case did a great job investigating and were able to find everyone involved.”

Police later found all four suspects at separate locations. One of the guns used during the armed robbery and some of the money stolen from the casino were recovered, authorities said.

The robbery posed a challenge for investigators because the gunmen were wearing masks in the surveillance video, prosecutors said.
