POPLAR GROVE — Traffic is starting to pick up at Lucky Dawg Slots, a new gaming locale offering cold drinks, personal pizzas and Vienna hot dogs.

Owner Frank Madonia said weekends are especially busy for his gaming boutique, 13551 Julie Drive, off of Illinois Route 76.

“There’s no loud music. It’s just a really nice place to be,” he said. “I’m looking forward to being here for a long while.”

The Rockton resident opened his business with approval from some of the village’s top leaders.

“(It’s a) great family-run operation and it’s a great addition to the village,” Village Administrator Diana Dykstra said in an email.

Through Nov. 4, Madonia is inviting visitors to “crack the code” to win $50,000.
