Please point and laugh at this list of the NHL's 20 greatest all-time teams – Broad Street Hockey (blog)

Fans apparently voted on a list of the Top 20 Greatest NHL Teams Of All-Time. I had no idea this was happening and I read every email that the NHL’s public relations department sends out, but apparently other people knew and we’re two rounds into voting and …. uh, here’s the list. It’s in reverse chronological order.

2015-16 Pittsburgh Penguins 2009-10 Chicago Blackhawks 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings 2000-01 Colorado Avalanche 1997-98 Detroit Red Wings 1993-94 New York Rangers 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins 1990-91 Pittsburgh Penguins 1988-89 Calgary Flames 1987-88 Edmonton Oilers 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers 1982-83 New York Islanders 1981-82 New York Islanders 1979-80 New York Islanders 1977-78 Montreal Canadiens 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens 1975-76 Montreal Canadiens 1969-70 Boston Bruins

Apparently there’s more voting that will narrow this down to a top 10 and a Greatest Ever Team OMG, but … hahaha this list. I have thoughts.

Everybody who voted on this was between the ages of 7 and 17 during the 1980s. I am convinced of this. THE 2016 PENGUINS? REALLY? What a coincidence that three of their four Cup teams made the list, it’s almost like Penguins fans didn’t vote for this thing at all. The 2009-10 Blackhawks team isn’t even the best Blackhawks team of this decade. The 1995-96 Red Wings won 62 games and aren’t on this list. 62-13-7. apparently this is only a list of Cup winners, which is even dumber than I originally thought It’s really amazing what recency bias can do to a list like this. You really think 10 of the league’s top 20 teams — over 100 years — came in the last three decades? Come on. hahahah did the NHL start in 1969 or what

I don’t know. I have more to say but this
