DENVILLE — Two New York men were arrested in Morris County Saturday after police found a pound of marijuana and a loaded gun in their car, officials said.

Marvin Guillaume-Sam, 22, of Rosedale, N.Y., and Michael Thomas, 21, of Elmont, N.Y., were pulled over on Route 80 in Denville after their red Nissan Altima was spotted making multiple lane changes without signaling, said State Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite.

As Trooper John Sousa approached the driver, he could smell the odor of pot wafting from the vehicle, Polite said. The men were ordered out of the car and detained, but denied consent to search the car.

When they were brought back to the station, police found a baggie with pot resin on Guillaume-Sam, Polite said.

The men then gave police consent to search the car, which had been towed to the station. Officers discovered a pound of marijuana, paraphernalia and a loaded .45 handgun, Polite said.

Both men are being held in the Morris County Jail on drug and weapon charges.

In January, Guillaume-Sam was charged with eluding police, shoplifting and assault after he allegedly robbed an A&P supermarket in Mahwah and led police on a chase.
