Man arrested on suspicion of stealing beer from Costa Mesa liquor store – OCRegister

COSTA MESA A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing beer from a Costa Mesa liquor store and threatening employees with a knife, authorities said.

Renato Meza, 27, of Costa Mesa was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of commercial robbery, police Sgt. Dan Miles said.

Around 5:05 p.m., Meza is suspected of stealing a three-pack of beer from Sunshine Liquor, 724 West 19th St., and then fleeing.

Store employees chased after Meza, who began swinging the beer cans at them and then ran away, Miles said.

Meza is then suspected of returning to the store where he brandished a folding knife at the employees, he added.

He fled again and was spotted by a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter, enabling officers to make an arrest.
