4 p.m. ET DraftKings value picks for Monday

All season long,’s fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. These value plays can be used as a basis for your roster decision-making.

Derek Ryan, CAR ($4,000 vs. DAL): Playing mostly in a secondary role with veteran wing Justin Williams, Ryan has at least one point in five of his past six games. Ryan and Williams ($4,600) also play on the same power-play unit, and Ryan has scored five points (two goals, three assists) with two on the power play in seven home games. Dallas Stars goaltender Ben Bishop has been much worse on the road (2-3-0, .888 save percentage) compared to at home (5-1-0, .942 SV%, one shutout).

Gemel Smith, DAL ($3,500 at CAR): Playing on the Dallas Stars’ top line against the New York Islanders on Friday, Smith scored a goal on his only shot, benefiting from exposure to high-end forwards Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov. The Carolina Hurricanes have allowed 21 goals in seven home games this season, making Smith worth drafting along with Benn and/or Radulov in this favorable spot. He has a low floor in DFS, but his high upside on this two-game slate makes him a must-add player for large DFS contests. He also had two assists and 5.5 DraftKings points against the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 4.
