Deadwood gaming down for Sept. – Black Hills Pioneer

DEADWOOD — Following months of stable activity to slight growth, Deadwood gaming numbers have once again started a slight descent, despite great September weather and a stable hotel occupancy rate.

According to the monthly summary issued by the South Dakota Gaming Commission Tuesday, gamers visiting Deadwood in September dropped roughly $101 million in machines and on tables, a 1.95 percent decrease, as compared to September, 2016 and a 2.46 percent decrease year to date, bringing the total amount wagered for 2017 thus far to roughly $850 million, resulting in nearly $9.6 million in taxable adjusted gross revenues for the industry in September. Of that, nine percent, or $864,027 was collected as state tax and distributed to various entities across the state.

Deadwood Gaming Association Executive Director Mike Rodman said that Deadwood gaming operators rewarded players with $1,373,466 in “free-play” for the month of September.

“We continue to be disappointed in gaming revenues, particularly when September 2017 is down 11.98 percent, when compared to September 2015,” said Rodman. “We are thankful that we have been able to maintain our hotel occupancy, however.”

With 95 tables reporting revenue, table games generated a drop of roughly $6.2 million in September and an estimated statistical win of $1.1 million, with an average payout of 80 percent to players. The leading revenue generator in this category was black jack, with 38 tables reporting a drop of roughly $2.6 million and a statistical win of $511,332 with an average payout of 85 percent to players.
