Danbury woman charged with selling beer, cigarettes

DANBURY – A woman with more than $12,000 worth of alcohol and cigarettes who police said was selling the merchandise illegally out of her Foster Street apartment has been arrested.

Police said they began the investigation several months ago after officers on patrol noticed an unusually large amount of foot traffic entering the apartment. Vera Ribeiro-Menezes, 63, authorities said, would sell cigarettes out of the apartment for $1 a piece and cans of beer for $3. Nips of hard alcohol, police said, were sold for around $2 each.
