GRAHAM — A beer and wine store, Beer Co., is opening its second location at the former Carver’s on Elm restaurant space in downtown Graham, the space’s owner said.

The space at 106 W. Elm St. was gutted by a fire in January 2014. Lee Kimrey bought the space last year and is rebuilding it to include an upstairs apartment where his family will live.

Beer Co., which has a location in Greensboro, specializes in craft beer. It will move into the ground-floor, 2,300-square-foot-space by next summer, Kimrey said.

The business is owned by Barry Coe and his son, Josh Coe. Both are from Graham.

“Graham is building up,” Josh Coe said. “There is stuff opening up left and right.”

The Greensboro store carries 300 to 500 varieties of beer. While customers can partake on the premises, the business is 80 percent take-home retail, Josh Coe said, adding that the new store will include an event space.

Ricky Carver had operated Carver’s on Elm since 1993, and regulars of the resturant were devastated when an accidental fire destroyed the building. No one was injured in the early-morning blaze. Carver’s has since moved to a new space on South Church Street in Burlington.

Ground will be broken on the Elm Street space Nov. 17, Kimrey said.
