Denver Makes #2 On Best Beer Cities 2014 List – MaryJNews

beerMaryJNews_Denver – There is no secret that the people of Colorado love their beer. Possibly even more than these Coloradans like their pot. Now they are finally getting their recognition for it. Denver has now been named the No. 2 Best Beer City in 2014 by Livability.com. This puts them just behind Bend, Oregon who took the number one spot.

“Denver offers innovative and award-winning breweries, residents who consume beer at higher rates than the average American, sophisticated beer tastes and a high-quality of life for beer lovers,” Livability.com exclaimed in a recent press release regarding the list.

The editor at Livability.com’s takes into account beer production and consumption when choosing which towns make the list. Also taken into consideration is the number of liquor stores per capita and the city’s reputation as a beer town.

“Being a great beer city has positive implications for attracting talent, fostering business and drawing in tourists,” Livability.com editor Matt Carmichael stated. “But most importantly it means you have great beer.”

Colorado is home to four of the fifty largest breweries in the United States along with six of the fifty largest craft breweries in the country. These stats are provided by the annual numbers released in 2013 by the Boulder-based Brewers Association.

Statistics show that the residents of Denver consume beer more often than the average American. The city is also claims to be home to the best beer walk in America, where a beer enthusiasts can reach 20 breweries and pubs on drinking foot patrol. Denver also plays host to the annual Denver for the Great American Beer Festival. This festival attracts brewers from all over the country.
