A Freeland man and two New York City men were arrested for allegedly stealing $170 from a video poker machine in a borough tavern on Friday, and may face similar charges from other incidents in the area, police said.

Freeland police arrested Juan Jerez Madera, 32, of Evancho Circle, Freeland; Rolando Pena, 40, of Bronx, New York; and Ramon Berroa, 47, of New York City, on two counts each of burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.

Police said they allegedly entered The Other Side tavern on Centre Street at approximately 12:50 p.m. Friday and removed $170 in cash from the video poker machine, which was located in a rear pool room area of the bar.

“They were seen leaving the bar, and they didn’t even finish their drinks,” said Freeland police Sgt, Michael Racho, who viewed surveillance video footage to develop a description of the trio.

The video showed the three playing pool, and then Berroa and Pena exchanged a set of keys. Pena then removed the money from the machine and placed it into his coat pocket, Racho said.

When they left the bar, police said they drove off in a black Acura sedan.

Racho got out the description of the trio and later that day, Freeland officers spotted a black Acura sedan outside The Other Side with three males in the vehicle matching the descriptions. The three were taken into custody during a traffic stop with the assistance of Butler Twp. police, which led to the recovery of a large amount of money from the men in the vehicle, leading to their arrest.
